Dr. Paulo Cortes of San Diego Smile Center – Teeth Implants San Diego is experienced in performing root canals in Mira Mesa, San Diego, CA.
Root Canals are often recommended for patients in order to preserve a tooth and keep it from needing to be extracted.
The inner part of your tooth is made up of nerves, pulp, and blood vessels. In a root canal, the inner, sterile part of the tooth has been infected with bacteria due to tooth decay or a crack in the enamel.
The root canal procedure requires the cleaning of the innermost part of a tooth, removing any bacteria in it, and sealing it off to keep it from getting infected in any other way. A root canal gives you a high chance of salvaging the tooth.
The sooner you take action on an infected tooth, the better the chances are for saving the tooth from extraction.
When dealt with in a timely manner, a root canal will prevent you from requiring more expensive and invasive procedures later on due to the loss of the tooth and other oral health complications.
Left untreated, a person may experience pain and swelling in the area of the affected tooth. The tooth would ultimately need to be extracted if a root canal is not successfully performed.
Most root canals are successful, however, in some instances a tooth cannot be saved. In other cases, a root canal may fail years down the road. If a root canal does fail, you have other options.
Dr. Paulo Cortes will discuss all of your options when he meets with you.
The staff at San Diego Smile Center will be attentive to your needs and provide excellent care for you when you come to our office.
